We study emerging viral pathogens at the molecular level. Our goals are to define the mechanisms by which such pathogens enter into host cells, and to determine how their replication machinery functions and harness that knowledge to advance countermeasures to combat infection. We are also capitalizing on our knowledge to further advance vesicular stomatitis virus as a platform for the development of vaccines against emerging viral pathogens.
